The Faerie Shoot Extraordinaire
This shoot came about in a somewhat unusual way and led to a great deal, not the least of which was my association with Enchanted Living magazine, then known as Faerie Magazine. I have come to believe it was divinely inspired and was the next step in my creative journey.
One night I was working late in my studio making floral arrangements for a wedding in two days. It was pouring rain, I had the heater blasting, and The Lord of the Rings playing in the background. I was obsessed with the stories and Peter Jackson's portrayal on the big screen. I watched it over and over, and whenever I had a project, I would often have it playing in the background. The centerpieces I was working on looked like they would have fit right in. Lichen-covered branches with moss, flowers, and candles looking like they belonged at a party in Riverdale. As I was working away, the scene of Agaorn and Arawren professing their love for each other. For a split second, my mind wondered what their wedding would have looked like, and then my imagination exploded with images and possibilities. I swear I could hear!
Eventually, I settled on the idea of a faerie and an elf wedding, and after trying to ignore the child in me that desperately wanted me to create it, I gave in, and after a few weeks, decided to go for it. It came together surprisingly easily. When I got the insanely talented Elizabeth Messina to shoot it, I knew it was meant to be. The story of how it came to be published in Faerie Magazine is a long one for another time. What did come to pass is that I became a regular contributor to my favorite magazine! It has also been published in Hong Kong Elle, Santa Barbara Magazine, and numerous other publications, as well as on multiple blogs.
