Pre-Raphaelite inspired shoot

I have always loved the painting group and era called the Pre-Raphaelites. Their emphasis on nature with painstaking details and romantic scenes from classic literature paved the way for some stunning masterpieces. One I particularly love is William Waterhouse's The Lady of Shalott. The ranch where I was living had a beautiful lagoon with reeds along the edges and all manor of detritus from 150 years of ranching history scattered about. I had seen the prow of an old wooden dingy sticking out of the ground by our old garage. So on a whim i dug it out and found that as long as I didn't expect it to float, I could make it work. I put concrete blocks in the water at the shallow edge in amongst the reeds and then proped the boat on them. I then filled the boat with beautiful fabric and piles of flowers. I found a beautiful young lady that would be my model and put her in my old wedding dress, which was not traditional, but more along the lines of a renaissance style (surprise, surprise). My friend and brilliant photographer Shirley Kemp was coming out from England and was happy to collaborate with me again. She is one of my favorite photographers to work with and always gets the mood I am going for. My lovely boyfriend at the time even built us a platform in a nearby tree so we could get the perfect shots. The following are what we captured. It was published multiple times, most notably in Carolyn Turgeon's book, The Faerie Handbook.
