Greenhouse Dinner Shoot

Project Type

Photography

Date

April 2023

The old greenhouses on the ranch where I was living always fascinated me. I loved the pealing paint and broken windows, they were in a perfect state of dilapidation. The ranch itself was rich in atmosphere, always whispering fun photo shoot ideas to my imagination. The pasture outside my front door would bloom every spring with beautiful wild flowers, and I thought a ceremony there would be so lovely. Finally, I gave in and let my imagination run. I found a willing couple, an artist who created letterpress invitations, and a friend who was a wedding coordinator to collaborate with.

We found a lovely couple for our bride and groom, and then we cut loose. I used a variety of vintage furniture from my wedding prop warehouse and set up the ceremony in the field. We used the old ranch dump truck as the bride and groom getaway vehicle, and I got to set up my visions of a reception in the old greenhouse. The juxtaposition of an elegant dinner against all the ruins was such a fun twist. I played off the textures of the metal, glass, and wood in the building, as well as their subtle shades of grey and cream, in the metal-covered table, ceiling tins used as chargers, and antique silver containers for the flowers. The old lace and grey velvet were added layers of beauty. We were all quite pleased with the results. I always feel a bit silly setting up such a beautiful table to not sit down for a lovely dinner. However, that being said, I am more of a behind-the-scenes person and not much of a social dinner party guest.
